My friends Philip and Casey McCluskey started Vimergy, and you’ve got to check it out. Vimergy features some of the most amazing superherbs on the planet, such as Reishi, Chaga, Gynostemma and many more. These herbs are wildcrafted in China, which means they grow naturally in rural areas and are harvested by hand. They have been used for thousands of years to produce radiant health.
More about the Vimergy founders:
Philip, an author, motivational speaker, and weight loss expert and Casey McCluskey a nutritionist, life coach, master herbalist and author, have spent much of their lives seeking the most effective ways to improve their minds and their bodies. Their separate journeys converged in 2011 when they discovered how their paths had paralleled one another much of their lives. Together, they have shared their knowledge and experience with each other and the rest of the world through coaching, speaking and writing.
Herbal supplements have long been the foundation of physical wellbeing and mental clarity for both Philip and Casey. Through their weight-loss struggles, health ailments, and anxieties, Philip and Casey have found the strength and commitment to heal themselves with support from the natural world. Seeing the potency of herbs first-hand, Casey nurtured her understanding of their remarkable healing effects until she became a master herbalist.
Today Philip and Casey integrate herbs into all of their health and spiritual coaching. From cleanses and weight-loss programs to emotional guidance and re-invigoration, Philip and Casey offer a series of unique approaches to transforming physically and mentally. Their ideas are a fusion of Eastern and Western concepts that work powerfully together to improve lives.

Whenever I travel, my Vitamix blender always goes along for the ride. I use it several times a day for smoothies, nut milks, desserts, salad dressings and sauces. Before my Vitamix, I owned another less expensive blender. I thought I was getting a good deal, but the consistency of the smoothies and sauces were never right. I would end up throwing out half of everything I made. Not only that, my old blender would regularly get jammed and make a mess in the kitchen.
Eventually I got fed up enough and picked up a Vitamix. It’s the Rolls Royce of blenders. The smoothies, desserts and sauces are delicious and always have the perfect consistency. Plus my Vitamix comes with a variable control so I can change speeds. Cleaning is easy and quick, and usually takes a minute or two.
The bottom line is that Vitamix blenders make it much easier to stay healthy because everything tastes so darn good. I’m not kidding when I say that it’s the only kitchen appliance I can’t live or travel without. Once you try it, you’ll never settle for anything less.

It’s cold and snowy out there for some of us, so let’s all get tropical with a super-powered Tropical Green Smoothie. I got this great recipe from my friend Karen Ring. The drink has a wonderful smooth and creamy consistency to it. It’s delicious, hydrating and very energizing. You’ll feel the magic hit you right away as you drink.
Coconut water is the most hydrating drink on the planet and is a great base for this smoothie. You can buy the real deal, young Thai coconuts at most health stores or foreign markets. Or you can buy coconut water on the shelf in grocery stores everywhere.
Another fascinating fact about coconut water is this: it is almost the same as blood plasma. In fact it was used for emergency transfusions during WWII. When you combine coconut water with chlorophyll rich greens, you are giving yourself an instant blood transfusion. Remember, hemoglobin is essentially converted plant blood (chlorophyll). Hence a blood transfusion in a glass!
To take it up another notch, try adding a teaspoon of the immune-boosting superfood Spirulina. The health benefits of Spirulina alone are off the charts. Spirulina is a single-celled algae that contains the highest concentration of protein by weight of any food. It’s also incredibly rich in chlorophyll, enzymes, phytonutrients, antioxidants and even helps in the production of stem cells.
Handful of Greens (kale, spinach, collards, etc)
¼ fresh Pineapple, peeled but include core, this is where most of the bromelain is. (Bromelain is an enzyme that helps with protein digestion)
1 ripe banana
1 teaspoon of Spirulina
Blend. Add water and ice if needed.
Sit back with an attitude of Gratitude and enjoy!

I was given this recipe by raw food chef Khepra Anu who is featured in The Healing Effect movie. For those of you who don’t know Khepra, he is the owner and raw food visionary behind Khepra’s Raw Food and Juice Bar restaurant in Washington DC. When I visited DC a few months ago, I ate at his joint every single day I was in town! I also brought all of my friends, so they’ve become regulars just like me!
Back to the salad: Straight up, this salad is BOMB. It’s the most flavorful salad experience I have ever had. The olive oil, lime juice and coconut nectar make an out-of-this-world sweet and tangy dressing. Then, as you dive into the greens, you’ll find pomegranate seeds exploding in your mouth with every delicious bite. Only nature can make something this good!
Just a little natural news about pomegranates: Did you know that pomegranates are powerful anti-oxidants with anti-cancer and immune supporting effects. Not only that, pomegranates lower cholesterol and blood pressure – plus they protect against depression and osteoporosis. Who knew that something so tasty could also be so amazing for you!
So let’s get to it y’all. Here are the ingredients:
- 2 pomegranates
- 1 medium red onion
- 1/2 cup of fresh thyme
- 1/2 fresh jalepeno or habenero pepper
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/3 cup fresh lime juice
- 1/4 cup coconut nectar
- sea salt to taste
METHOD: Open and squeeze pomegranates into bowl with cut up kale, letting pomegranate juice and seeds spread over kale. Add onion, pepper, thyme to food processor with S-blade and pulse a few times. (By the way, if you don’t have an S-blade, just dice the onion, pepper and thyme into tiny pieces. Anyway you cut it, it’s going to be delicious). Add mixture to kale along with remaining ingredients. Mix well, enjoy!
A recent summer visit to Rochester NY introduced me to Just Juice 4 Life, and was I glad I found this place. Owner Damaris Pinedo makes some of the best elixirs you’ll find anywhere. I started my day with Morning Glory which is loaded with kale, jalapeno, orange, cilantro, garlic and ginger. Then I came back a few hours later for a Green Goddess. This is a really hydrating & refreshing drink with lots of kale, green apples, cucumber and lime. Just Juice 4 Life does juices, smoothies and cleanses. Definitely worth a visit. When I was visiting relatives in Charlotte, Luna’s was my go-to place for raw, delicious nourishment. I introduced my family to this place and everyone loved it. Everything I ate at Luna’s was phenomenal, but if I had to pick favorites, it would be the Kelp and Kale Salad along with the Lunasagna. They are both otherworldly and so incredibly flavorful. Words don’t do justice to these entrees. Top off your meal with an Incan Warrior smoothie. It’s a mix of hemp milk, maca, cinnamon, raw cacao and banana. If you want a juice with a real bite, try the Volcano, the perfect drink to start the day. It’s made with orange, lemon, grapefruit, maple syrup and a kick of cayenne. Love this place! When I visited Nourish over the summer, I was so impressed by the vast array of juices and smoothies. Owner and Founder Susan Cabana opened the first shop in Medford and now they have a second one in South Boston. My personal fave is the Green Juice: it’s a detoxing combo rich in anti-oxidants, chlorophyll and powerful vitamins and minerals. And besides all that, it also tastes amazing. But really, you can’t go wrong with any of the juices and smoothies. Or better yet, take your health to the next level and arrange a juice cleanse with Susan.
