Khepra’s Raw Food Juice Bar

When I visited some friends recently in Washington DC, I went to Khepra’s Raw Food Juice Bar every night.  One bite and you are hooked.  Chef owner Khepra Anu is a visionary and his food explodes with flavor.  My personal favorites were the Nut Hemp Burger, Avocado Wrap and oh yes, the Coconut Crab Cake.  Besides the entrees, you can also load up on scrumptious sides like Garlic Kale, Creamy Collards, “Fried” Plantains and Cauliflower Nuggets.  They give you a ton of food and if you are like my friends and I, you will devour each and every delicious bite.  But you won’t feel guilty because it’s all living, enzymatic, micro-nutrient dense food.  It’s healing you from the inside out. Kickstarter Juice of the Day

Handful of Kale and Collard Greens (however any greens will do)

6 – 8 Carrots

1 Apple cored

RAW-licious Oatmeal

Oat-Groats

I can’t say enough about this oatmeal except that it is my favorite meal of the day.  It’s incredibly delicious, filling, energizing and nutritious.   It blows away the packaged stuff we ate as kids. I use oat groats which are pictured above.  These are the whole cereal grains and look a little like brown rice.  However, you can use steel cut oats if you don’t have the groats.  Here’s how you make it:

Take 1 cup of OAT GROATS (or STEEL CUT OATS) and pour them into a large bowl.  Then cover the oats with WATER and soak them for around 12 hours.

After soaking the oats, drain out all of the water and pour oats into a FOOD PROCESSOR.

Next, add 1/2 of an APPLE cored into the food processor.  Cut the apple into small chunks.

Then, add a 1/3 cup of RAISINS into the food processor.

Next, sprinkle ground CINNAMON on top of all ingredients in the food processor.

Add 2 tablespoons of WATER into the food processor.

Mix all ingredients in food processor for several minutes until it reaches a smooth, creamy consistency.

Serve yourself some in a bowl.

**To take it up another notch and give it a little crunch, try sprinkling CHIA SEEDS and WALNUTS on top.

Simply RAW Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream

My raw food chef friend Samantha Bonanno showed me how to make this raw ice cream and it’s simply the best ice cream you will EVER have!   It’s rich, creamy, chocolatey, peanut-buttery and amazing.  Coconut meat and cashews serve as the base.

**To do this, you’ll need to get your hands on 2 – 3 young coconuts and extract the water and coconut meat.  You will also need an ice cream maker.  Trust us: it’s worth the effort!!!

Here are the ingredients:

One tightly packed cup of coconut meat

Two cups of coconut water

One cup of cashews

1/2 cup of raw cacao powder

1/2 cup of agave nectar

1/2 cup of raw peanut butter (or raw almond butter)

Combine all ingredients in your blender.  Slowly blend away until smooth.  (If the batter seems too thin and watery, you can always add another handful of cashews to thicken it) Then add this ice creamy batter into your ice cream maker.  Watch the frozen magic happen.  Serve & Enjoy!!!

Catch a Healthy Habit

NR-Glen-CAHH-Fairfield-Sign-v1I first visited Catch a Healthy Habit Cafe in Fairfield Connecticut a few years ago when I was interviewing superfood guru David “Avocado” Wolfe. It was a long drive down to CT, so when I arrived at the cafe, I was tired, famished & needed immediate sustenance. Was I in for a treat when I entered this raw food hot spot!

Immediately, I was blown away by the amazing array of meals and smoothies on the menu. It was a really hard choice but I finally settled on the Catch a Healthy Habit nut seed & veggie burger on onion bread and a Popeye juice. The burger was exceptional and loaded with flavor. And the juice was the perfect way to kick start the day! I can’t wait to go back this year and chow down on some nori wraps, raw pizza & the magic mushroom elixir with chaga and reishi!

Glen and Lisa are the amazing owners of the cafe. Not only do they serve great food, they also sponsor speakers, events, movies, even raw chocolate parties and juice cleanses. Love these guys, they live the philosophy of our movie: change your life, one bite at a time!

Who knew catching a healthy habit could be so delicious & fun!!!
